Students Named Semi-Finalists in Merit Scholarship Program

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names Wednesday of over 16,000 semi-finalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

All eight public high schools in the Town of Huntington had at least one semi-finalist.

The high school seniors will be eligible to go on to compete for some 7,250 National Merit scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, semi-finalists must fulfi ll several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition.

About 95 percent of the semi-finalists are expected to reach finalist standing, and approximately
half of the finalists will win a National Merit scholarship.
