Suffolk Officers Hurt in Fire Rescue

Two Suffolk County Police officers were injured Friday March 30 after entering a burning home in East Northport to rescue a dog.

Officers Joseph Barra and Stephen Caratozzolo responded to the fire at about 1:45 p.m. Circling the home, the officers spotted the dog in a rear window. They entered the burning home through a rear door and rescued the dog.

Both officers suffered smoke inhalation and were treated at  Stony Brook University Hospital.

The dog, a 5 year-old Pomeranian mix named Gucci, is expected to survive.

Arson detectives are investigating.
