Suozzi Running for Governor

U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi, D-Huntington, announced Monday that he will run for governor, joining other prominent Democrats already in the race.

Citing his experience as mayor of Glen Cove, as a member of Congress and as Nassau County executive, Suozzi said, “I’m running for governor,”  and said he was a common-sense Democrat, seeking to find solutions to problems.

“I’ll work with anybody,” he said. “It’s not about being politically correct.”

“I can do this because I’ve done this,” he said.

He said he differs from others running for the office in three ways:

Competence, ideology and vision for the future.
He also cited the need to deal with crime and  reduce taxes in New York State.
Gov. Kathy Hochul, who stepped into the office with Andrew Cuomo was forced to resign, and New York Attorney General Letitia James, have already declared as candidates.
Suozzi, 59. was re-elected to represent the 3rd District in 2020. He was first elected to the House in 2016.
