Super Bowl Sunday: How to Celebrate

Activities around Super Bowl LVI get underway Sunday hours before the 6:30 p.m. kickoff of the game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Super Bowl 5k will go off at 9 a.m. at Dix Hills Park, with a prize to the runner with a finishing time closest to the teams’ final score. 

Deli workers will be busy starting first thing Sunday morning, organizing orders for pickup or delivery.

Social media has been filled in recent days with restaurants pitching their game-watching  packages and catering, from all-day specials on pitchers of beer, at Instant Replay bar on East Jericho Turnpike, to the large TV’s to watch the game, at Honu in Huntington,

Those looking to watch the Kitten Bowl will have to wait until next year, when puppies will join the lineup. The Kitten Bowl, which partnered with North Shore Animal League, features adoptable animals  and will be renamed “Great American Rescue Bowl.”

On the music front, the Half Hollow Hills Community Library shows library users how they can listen to music from the stars performing at half time, including Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar.

Both the Suffolk County Police Department and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office cautioned drivers to avoid arrests by not drinking and getting behind the wheel. SCPD has promised extra patrols to keep drivers safe.

The state Attorney General’s Office warned New Yorkers to be aware of deceptive online sports betting companies this Super Bowl, which will be the first major sports event that New Yorkers can bet on online.
