How You Can Help: 2 Organizations Looking for Support

Two organizations that assist those in need in Huntington are looking for some help.

Both Helping Hand Rescue Mission and Brett’s Bicycle Recycle provide assistance to residents, the rescue mission through a variety of food, language and clothing programs, while the bicycle program takes in bikes, repairs them and donates them to those who need transportation.

The bicycle recyclers need a van or truck to transport their bikes to community events where they give them away. They are running a fundraising campaign to buy a van if no one has a vehicle they can donate.

Helping Hands is looking for space. The Railroad Street building is packed and has limited parking. Huntington Assembly of God has helped ease the strain, making room for special projects for babies, and an ESL program, and Bethel Lutheran also hosts an ESL class.

“We are starting to look for a more permanent home for our Community Closet where families in need can “shop for free” possibly a Huntington Station storefront with adequate parking that has a large room for the clothing and household items to be set up and a backroom space for sorting, rest rooms etc.,” the Rev. Kim Gaines said. “Our clothing outreach has clothed thousands of families through the years and we hope to do more in the future.”
