Swastika Burned Into Grass at Crescent Beach Park

Suffolk County police are investigating the appearance of a swastika that was apparently burned into a grassy area at Crescent Beach Town Park in Huntington on Sunday.

A park employee reported finding the damage Sunday about 7:15 p.m.

Suffolk detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Hate Crimes Unit at 631-852-6323. All calls will remain confidential.

“I have always been proud to be a lifelong resident of and serve a town that is known for its diversity and tolerance. But, between this heinous act at our beach and even amid the joy in my participation in the Juneteenth celebration this weekend, the sad and overwhelming reality is too many of us do not enjoy the luxury of a life free of hate and injustice,” Councilwoman Joan Cergol said. “That is why our work as elected officials to strive to create a more perfect union right here in our own backyards must be among our greatest priorities. We certainly can, and must, do better. Hate has no place in the Town of Huntington, or anywhere.”
