Korean War Veteran, 86, Plays Taps on Renovated Veterans Plaza

Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci presented Korean War veteran Stanley Wertheimer with a proclamation from the Town Board on Wednesday.

The 86-year-old retired Centerport firefighter and veteran of the U.S. Navy played “Taps,” a bugle melody, on the trumpet in the Huntington Veterans Plaza at Town Hall just minutes before he was honored at the Town Board meeting.

Wertheimer has been playing “Taps” every night from his Centerport home for the past 25 or 30 years to pay tribute to fallen soldiers, police officers, firefighters, and all service men and women.
