Some local teachers are turning to Donors Choose to post requests for funds for special classroom projects.The website, which was started in 2000 by a teacher in the Bronx, said “We make it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need, moving us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education.”

Ripple, a virtual currency company, recently made an astonishing gift of $29 million to fund all 35,000 projects on the DonorsChoose.org site at that point.
Since then, more projects have been posted.
Among them in Huntington are:
- Bringing Science Outdoors, Maplewood Intermediate School The campaign, with a goal of $224, expires July 28.
- Kindergarten Wants to Code Robots, Countrywood Primary The campaign expires July 27 and hopes to raise $827.
- 21st Century Coding Opportunities…Through Legos?!? Birchwood Intermediate The campaign, with a goal of $660, expires July 27.
- If You Code It, They Will Come, Maplewood Intermediate School, met its goal of $430 with a single donation. The page suggests donors continue to contribute for the next project.
