2nd Update: Teen Charged in Hit-and-Run Death of Pedestrian

A Dix Hills teen was arrested Thursday in the hit and run death of a pedestrian in Greenlawn, Suffolk County police said.

Sair Rodriguez, 32, of Greenlawn was walking on the southbound shoulder of Broadway at the intersection of Legacy Court when he was struck by a vehicle southbound on Broadway in Huntington that then fled the scene.

Veronica Borraci, 17, of Dix Hills was arrested a few hours later and charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. She will held at the Second Precinct station and arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

The teen graduated from Commack High School a few weeks ago and was making plans for college. In December, she posted a video to Youtube for a Science Ambassador Scholarship.

  1. Not for nothing she was scared and probably in shock, she should have stopped and called 911. But on that road in Greenlawn I have been 5 ft from someone dressed in dark clothes walking the shoulder of the road at night and swerved and said oh crap what the hell are they thinking. I hope that the county lights up that area so no one else gets killed.

  2. True, but until you’re stunned and scared when an event like hitting a person of an animal can you actually know what happens to your brain. I doubt the person laid in the road long since someone gave the description of her car etc.. But that road is way too dangerous, so dangerous that I am taking the time to even post here. The street has terrible lighting, no sidewalks and some stupid people that would walk at night on that road with no reflectors or a small light in their hands. Light this road up, this could have been anyones kid that got hit or anyone’s kid that now has to live with this horror.
