Temple Plans Walk to Support Nature Conservancy

Members of the Hindu temple in Melville will be leading in a walk June 3 to support The Nature Conservancy and Newsday Charities
The local BAPS Charities Walk Green is part of a national effort to help the Nature Conservancy’s efforts are to plant and restore over 1.6 million acres of land by planting one billion trees by 2025 through their Plant a Billion Trees initiative.  Around the country, more than 23,000 walkers in over 70 cities in North America will help support sponsoring 130,000 trees this year, for our total commitment of 300,000 trees in 3 years (2016 – 2018).
 

Newsday Charities makes grants  to local nonprofit organizations that provide vital programs in the areas of hunger, housing, youth education and child abuse prevention/treatment. Funds are raised through two public campaigns – Kids Campaign and Help-A-Family.

The walkathon this year runs from 11am to 1pm. It will start and finish at the temple at 2 Deshon Drive.Registration starts at 9 a.m. There is no registration fee.
