The Eagles of Centerport

A pair of bald eagles and their new eaglets have been the subject of considerable attention lately at Mill Dam Pond in Centerport.

After an online poll, members of the Bald Eagles of Centerport group named the birds the Commodore and Mrs. Vanderbilt, the administrator, Rob Schwartz, reported.

These photos are by Jill Weigold Wendling. Photographers, professional and amateur alike, have captured shots and video of the eagles’ and their babies, swooping in to find food in the pond, being chased away by a goose, and keeping an eye out for humans or other potential threats.
