‘The Learning Cottage’ Daycare Center Opens in Station

The Learning Cottage daycare center opened this week in Huntington Station.

Fahad Khan and his sister, Bareerah Khan-Turner, are part owners in their mother Naheed Khan’s center.

It will serve toddlers (18 months to 3 years), nursery (3 to 4 Years old) and pre-kindergarten (4 to 5 years old).  It also participates in a Department of Social Service program that assists parents with tuition.

The center at 34 West 16th St., is a sunny, multiroom space with about 1,400 square feet, and a lush grassy backyard play space surrounded by a colorfully painted fence.

Khan, a 2015 graduate of Walt Whitman High School, said his mother wanted to bring more childcare options to Huntington Station, an area he said needed more child services. He said his mother had been working in the area for 30 years in daycare centers, and other childcare programs, including SCOPE. He is a 2020 graduate of SUNY Albany.

The center has the capacity for 33 children.

A grand opening and ribbon cutting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 1.
