This Week: LIRR Changes, School Board Meetings

School board meetings and changes in the LIRR schedule are among the things on the agenda this week.

MONDAY

Amtrak work

Starting Monday, Amtrak repair work at Penn Station and East Side Access work west of Woodside will result in  changes to Huntington/Port Jefferson Branch service.

Some peak trains will be canceled/combined or diverted and other trains will depart earlier than usual.

On the Port Jefferson branch:

  • The 5:06 PM express from Penn Station, stopping at Syosset, Cold Spring Harbor and Huntington, will be canceled and combined with the 5:17 PM train from Penn Station, which runs express to Westbury, then stops at Hicksville, Syosset, Cold Spring Harbor and Huntington.
  • The 5:33 PM train from Penn Station to Hicksville will be extended with added stops at Syosset and Cold Spring Harbor.
  • The 6:07 PM train from Long Island City to Port Jefferson will have an added stop at Huntington.

MONDAY

Huntington school board meeting

The Huntington Union Free School District board of trustees will have its public meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School. 

TUESDAY

Police community meeting

The Second Precinct’s community meeting is set for 10 a.m. at the stationhouse, 1071 Park Ave., Huntington. Community questions and concerns regarding police issues will be addressed.

WEDNESDAY

The Town of Huntington will pick up paper recycling materials Wednesday. For more details. 

South Huntington school board meeting

The board of trustees of the South Huntington Union Free School District will meet in a public session at 7:30 p.m. at the James Kaden Administrative Offices, 60 Weston Street, Huntington Station.

THURSDAY

Alexander Hamilton: The Jewish Founding Father

Andrew Porwancher, Ph.D., the Wick Cary Associate Professor at the University of Oklahoma, will make the case for that Alexander Hamilton had a Jewish upbringing and will explore his ongoing relationships with Jews throughout his lifetime. 7:30 p.m., Temple Beth El.

FRIDAY

The Huntington Opportunity Resource Center will host a workshop on preparing for a career in the construction trades. 

The session will begin at 1 p.m. and run three hours at the HORC office, 1264 New York Ave., Huntington Station.  A math and reading test will be given. Call 631 348-1170 for more details.
