Tour Thursday of the Historic Van Wyck-Lefferts Tide Mill

A guided tour of 18th century tide mill, the Van Wyck-Lefferts Tide Mill will occur on Thursday, from 1:15pm- 2:25pm, hosted by Huntington Historical Society.

Tour of the Historic Van Wyck-Lefferts Tide Mill begins with a short boat ride from Gold Star Battalion beach into Puppy Cove, past waterfront mansions, and sightings of waterfowl.

The Van Wyck-Lefferts Tide Mill, which harnessed the tides for power, was the height of technology when it was built by the Van Wyck family in 1795. The mill is unique in that of the scores of tide mills on Long Island’s North Shore, it is the only one left with its building intact, on its original dam and with its original massive wooden gears.

The guide will explain the mill with some related social history.
