Town Board Salutes Resident Designated as Ambassador to Greece

The Huntington Town Board recognized George J. Tsunis Tuesday night for his selection to become the US ambassador to Greece.

Tsunis, 54, is a resident of Lloyd Harbor. He is an attorney and real estate businessman, serving as CEO of Chartwell Hotels, as well as chairman of the Battery Park City Authority.

“We wish him well as he begins the next chapter of his career. In these tenuous times, it’s  reassuring to know that you’ll be our very own Huntington resident representing the United States interests there in Europe and in Greece,”  Councilman Sal Ferro said.

Tsunis, a first-generation Greek American, is a 1985 graduate of Commack High School, New York University and  St. John’s University School of Law.

He was confirmed as ambassador in March and is awaiting his swearing-in. He will succeed Geoffrey R. Pyatt as ambassador.
