Town Building Flags at Half Staff for Sen. McCain

Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci directed that flags on all Town of Huntington buildings be flown at half-staff on Monday, August 27, to honor U.S. Sen. John McCain, who passed away Saturday.

“There are few leaders who have sacrificed as much for our country as Senator John McCain. John McCain spent his life as a public servant, faithfully serving his country with honor both in uniform and in public office,”  Lupinacci said. His resolve, while imprisoned for five years in a North Vietnamese POW camp, demonstrated a character we should all strive to live up to and never forget. Senator McCain was a true American hero.”

McCain entered the Naval Academy in June of 1954. He served in the United States Navy until 1981. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Arizona in 1982 and elected to the Senate in 1986, serving as a senator, until his death.  He served as  chairman of the Senate Committee on Armed Services. John McCain died from glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer, on Saturday.
