Town Dresses Up Archives Tours in a Halloween Theme

The Town of Huntington’s vast archives are open for tours as part of American Archives Month,  an annual event that this year includes a Hallloween theme.

Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci and Town Clerk Jo-Ann Raia led a tour Tuesday of documents dating back to the town’s founding in 1653, with accounts of placement in stocks and a whipping to curb a “turbulent” woman who annoyed her neighbors, a tar and feathering of a man, and the story of a former pirate turned town supervisor.

The archives are open through October on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., and on Halloween, Oct. 31.

Last year, the town temporarily renamed itself Hauntington at the request of a Huntington student, and the Town Board is expected to approve the renaming again at its Oct. 16 meeting.
