The southwest entrance to Heckscher Park got quite a makeover this week, part of Huntington’s Adopt-a-Corner strategy .
The program is an initiative unveiled by Supervisor Chad Lupinacci and Councilman Ed Smyth. “Adopt-a-Corner is quality of life initiative, that offers a creative outlet for residents, business owners and organizations to display their pride in the Huntington community, while helping beautify our Town at no cost to our taxpayers,” Lupinacci said Wednesday.
ARS Landscape & Design was the first business to beautify the two pieces of property reserved for the project. Their first installation was planted in September of 2019 while the second site was just added.. Their installations at the Prime Avenue and the Main Street entrances to the park are offering complimentary wildflower seed packets on a first-come first-serve basis.
The program passed unanimously at the October 2018 Town Board meeting. Andre Sorrentino, the town’s director of general services, approached Lupinacci with the idea to beautify areas across the town. The person or business who adopts the corner can put a small plaque with their name or dedicate it to someone. This also allows for opportunities of exposure for a person or business of Huntington. “We are at a time where out-of-the-box thinking is required for businesses to stay afloat. The exposure and pride an adopting business or individual can take away from participating in the program and the benefit for everyone living and working in a beautiful, charming community,” Lupinacci said.
Apply to adopt a corner following the instructions at huntingtonny.gov/adopt-a-corner or go to the Town’s website at huntingtonny.gov and look for the Adopt-a-Corner button on the homepage.
The Town Board also:
Accepted the dedication of Country View Lane, Berryfield Court, Sunnyfield Court, Cloverfield Court, Fieldstone Court, comprising a 4.65 acre Right of Way, a 5.49-acre passive park, recharge basin and all for the subdivision known as Harborfields Estates.
Adjourned, to Sept.15 at 7 pm a public hearing to consider adopting Local Law Introductory Number 8-2020, considering zone change application #2019-ZM-444, Equestrian Estates of Melville, to change the zoning from R-80 Residence District to R-20 Residence District for the property located on the east side of Round Swamp Road, south of Northern State Parkway, Melville, New York, at the request of the applicant.
