The Town of Huntington said Thursday that it had opened a warming center at the Dix Hills Ice Rink through Saturday, but it will close each night at midnight.
A town spokeswoman said that the town would work with the county, police and others to find overnight accommodations for anyone at the center when it closed. No one used the warming center the last time it was open.
The ice rink is at 575 Vanderbilt Pkwy, Dix Hills.
Temperatures are expected to hit a low of 18 degrees overnight Thursday, with wind gusts up to 28 MPH. Friday, a low of 15, with wind chill values between -5 and 5. Wind gusts as high as 36 mph are forecast.
