Town to Enforce Distancing Rules and Impose Fines

The Town of Huntington will enforce Gov. Cuomo’s social distancing rules, including the imposition of fines up to $1,000 for violations on town property.

Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci said, “Our patrols cannot be at every one of the 100+ Town of Huntington parks and beaches 24/7 to ensure everyone is social distancing. This is why we have encouraged the public to report observed unsafe behavior on Town-owned property to our 24/7 Emergency Hotline at (631) 351-3234 in order for our patrols to respond and break up unsafe gatherings. Despite this, people have continued to gather unsafely against social distancing guidance.”

Cuomo announced the doubling of fines this week to $100.

The town plans to ask the state for permission to donate fines to the First Responders Fund, which assists heatlhcare workers and first responders with expenses and costs. The fund is administered by the state Department of Health.
