Town to Offer Free Pit Bull Adoptions

Huntington will offer free adoptions of pitbulls and pitbull mixes in October during National Pit Bull Awareness Month. There will also be a free spay and neuter clinic at North Shore Veterinary Hospital and Little Shelter Animal Rescue.

“A breed once nicknamed ‘America’s dog’ now suffers from a stigma imposed by the inhumane treatment of cruel owners. The Huntington Animal Shelter is doing a great job rehabilitating all dogs that pass through our doors to ensure they are ready for adoption, as evidenced by our high adoption rate and our ability to take in dogs from other Towns and find them their forever homes,” Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci said. “This event, which offers free adoptions, includes free spaying and neutering for pit bulls and pit mixes, making it even easier for Huntington residents to find great dogs that are in desperate need of a home.”
