Tribute to Fallen Police Officers Set Jan. 16

The Paramount will host a fourth annual tribute for fallen police officers on Jan.16.

The Suffolk County chapter of the Brotherhood for the Fallen plans music, food, raffles and other entertainment as a fundraiser for the work it does to support the families of officers killed in the line of duty.

Suffolk police detective John Chiquitucto said the local chapter sends two members to funerals of officers around the country, and provides their families with a check.

“Every chapter sends two  officers and travel across the US,” he said. “When we go, we try to meet up with the family and give them  money right then and there especially the rural departments.”

Brotherhood for the Fallen was first organized  about five years ago in Chicago but has chapters elsewhere, including Texas, Colorado and Boston.

The detective said he had gone to several funerals, including one in a small community in Missouri. “His parents couldn’t have been more appreciative that someone from came from New York and that all these officers were coming from around the country,” he said.

Members of the Suffolk chapter include SCPD, several local departments, sheriff’s department and others.

Tickets are $60; the event runs from 7 to 11 p.m.
