A pedestrian was killed Sunday morning as he attempted to cross Fort Salonga Road in Northport
Suffolk County police said the man tried to cross the road at Layne Way about 11:45 a.m. when he was hit by an eastbound car driven by James Cherry.
The pedestrian was identified as Peter Carroll, 68, of Northport. He was transported to Huntington Hospital via Northport Rescue where he was pronounced dead.
Cherry, 27, of Northport, was not injured.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
