Updated: Pedestrian Hit by 2 Vehicles, Killed on LIE

A man who was killed Sunday night after leaving his vehicle on the Long Island Expressway in Melville has been identified.

Police said the victim was Ronald Yher, 72, of Selden.

Suffolk County police said Yher was westbound on the LIE and pulled onto the side of the road just west of exit 50. He stepped out of his 2018 Ford F150 and walked into the middle lane of the road where he was struck by a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu and then a 2007 Hummer.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers whose evhciles struck him were not injured.

The Ford F150, Chevrolet Malibu, and Hummer were all impounded for safety checks.

The crash occurred at 7:05 p.m.
