The US Census began releasing data last week from its 2020 survey of Americans, showing a decline in the White population, and an increase in the percentage of Asian and Hispanic residents.
HuntingtonNow.com has checked addresses in a variety of Census tracts, using well-known locations, such as libraries, schools or government buildings, to highlight a variety of areas of town. One Census tract in any given ZIP Code does not necessarily completely reflect changes across that hamlet or section of Huntington but does provide a sampling of demographic developments happening in the community.
Change is coming to all parts of Huntington.

White people formed 86 percent of this census tract in 2020, down 9 percentage points over the past 30 years.
Eaton’s Neck Fire Department, 55 Eaton’s Neck Road, Eaton’s Neck
Whites are 90 percent as of 2020, down 7 percentage points from 1990.
The Whaling Museum, 301 Main St., Cold Spring Harbor
White people form 86 percent of this census tract in 2020, down 11 percentage points over the past 30 years, with an increase from 1 to 7 percentage points in the Hispanic population.
John Glenn High School, 478 Elwood Road, East Northport
White people made up 83 percent, down 9 percentage points over the past 30 years, with Hispanics and Asians each increasing from 3 to 6 percentage points; the Black population increased from1 to 2 percent.
Suffolk Police Stationhouse, 1071 Park Ave., Huntington
Hispanic people made up 38 percent of this census tract in 2020, up 30 percentage points over the past 30 years.
Lloyd Harbor Police Department, 380 West Neck Road, Huntington
Whites form 87 percent of this census tract in 2020, down 10 percentage points over the past 30 years. The Hispanic population grew from 2 to 6 percent.
St. Hugh of Lincoln Church, 21 East Ninth St., Huntington Station
Hispanic people made up 60 percent in 2020, up 43 points over the past 30 years. The White population declined from 71 to 28 percent, the Asian population grew from 2 to 8 percent, and and the Black population fell to 19 percent from 44 percent.
South Huntington Public Library, 145 Pidgeon Hill Road, Huntington Station
Whites formed 77 percent of this census tract in 2020, down 20 percentage points over the past 30 years.
Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium, 180 Little Neck Road, Centerport
White people made up 89 percent of this census tract in 2020, down 7 percentage points over the past 30 years.
East Northport Public Library, 185 Larkfield Rd, East Northport
White people made up 80 percent of this census tract in 2020, down 14 percentage points over the past 30 years, with the Hispanic population rising from 4 to 12 percent.
Whitman High School, 301 West Hills Road, Huntington Station
White were 79 percent of this census tract in 2020, down 16 percentage points from 1990. The Hispanic population went from 2 to 10 percentage points; the Asian population grew from 3 to 7 percent.
Western Suffolk BOCES 507 Deer Park Ave., Dix Hills
White people made up 64 percent of this census tract in 2020, down 23 percentage points; Asians increased from 8 to 21 percentage points, Hispanics from 3 to 7 percentage points, and Black residents from 2 to 5 percent.
