Update: Utility, Town Warn of Nor’easter

With a nor’easter expected to hit Friday night, utility companies and government offices are encouraging residents to prepare for high winds and heavy rain.

The National Weather Service in New York NY has issued a Coastal
Flood Warning, which is in effect from noon to 3 PM EDT Saturday. There’s also
a wind advisory as of 1 a.m. Saturday, with gusts up to 50 miles an hour.

A wind advisory is issued when sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph, or gusts of 46 to 57 mph, are expected or occurring. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, in open areas, and on elevated roads and bridges. Use extra caution.

The Town of Huntington issued a maritime storm alert, warning of high winds and heavy rains Friday night through Sunday night. B oaters should secure their boats or pull them out of the water, boats on moorings should have their pennant lines checked for wearing.
