Some Huntington residents reported getting frustrating and contradictory information during Thursday’s snow storm about whether the Jones Beach Covid-19 vaccination site was open.
One volunteer helping people find appointments said Friday, “The Jones Beach Vaccine site and it’s hot line number created such a debacle yesterday! Some of my folks that I was able to get appointments for…. Yikes, they called the number and were told that the site was closed.. yet others claimed it was open and the site was still in full operation. The ball was dropped, yet kept bouncing.
“News 12 also said the site (s) remained open…Needless to say, this Monster of a debacle caused some of the same folks, who were told via the hotline that the Jones Beach site was closed due to the storm, to reach out to me again and vent. Why? Many of them lost their spots based on what they read, we’re told via hot line and News 12. Ouch!”
Meanwhile, the state said that about 10 million New Yorkers are eligible to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.
The federal government has increased the weekly supply by more than 20 percent, but the demand still far exceeds the supply, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said Saturday.
The ‘Am I Eligible’ screening tool has been updated for individuals with comorbidities and underlying conditions with new appointments released on a rolling basis over the next weeks.
Starting next week, local health departments will also receive vaccine allocations for these individuals. New Yorkers can use the following to show they are eligible:
- Doctor’s letter, or
- Medical information evidencing comorbidity, or
- Signed certification
The number of vaccines does not include vaccinations handled by the federal government and reserved for longterm care facilities.
