Letter: Support Collection of Eyeglasses for Those in Need

Last year, the Suffolk County Legislature honored a brave little girl named Caitlyn Michaels by designating August “Children’s Eye Health and Safety Awareness Month”.

As a nine-year-old suffering from an eye disease known as Bilateral Anterior Uveitis, Caitlyn courageously shared her story with the goal of promoting eye health and helping other children like herself. Since then, she and her mom have been hard at work raising awareness and developing the non-profit organization, Caitlyn’s Vision, which aims to ease the burden of financial hardship for families of children impacted by vision disease.

Knowing just how essential eye health is to the physical development, school success, and well-being of children, I am proud to join Caitlyn’s effort to advance this important cause by hosting a collection for gently used eyeglasses and cases to be given to people in need at no cost. Residents who would like to participate can deliver their donations through the month of February to my district office located at 224 Wall Street, Suite 303, Huntington, NY 11743.

I thank you in advance for your support of Caitlyn’s Vision. If you have any questions, feel free to call 631-854-4500.

Sincerely,
William R. Spencer, MD
