Walt Whitman Birthplace Honors Over 100 Student Poets

The Walt Whitman Birthplace Association handed out awards Sunday at  its 32nd annual Student Poetry Contest award ceremony.

This year’s theme was “Tribute” and the WWBA had hundreds of  people as well as local government officials attend, including Town Supervisor Chad Lupinacci.

Pulitzer Prize-winner Vijay Seshadri officiated as WWBA 2018 Poet-in-Residence to help honor over 100 winners.

Students grades 3-12 from 43 schools submitted approximately 2,500 entries from various locations including San Jose, Calif., and China.
