Walt Whitman Shops to Remain Closed on Thanksgiving

Simon Property Group, which owns dozens of retail sites in the US, said Monday that all of its malls, including Walt Whitman Shops, will remain closed on Thanksgiving Day.

“In these challenging times, we made the decision that we will not open on Thanksgiving Day, instead allowing our associates to spend the holiday with their loved ones,” said David Simon, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Simon.

Simon properties will be open on Black Friday.

Other stores have already announced plans to close on the holiday. Target said in July that it would remain closed on the holiday, as have Best Buy, Dick’s Sporting Goods,  Home Depot and many other chains. Several companies also said that they will spread sales normally scheduled for Black Friday across more days to limit the crush of customers coming into the stores at one time.
