West Hills Day Camp Shutting Down

West Hills Day Camp owner Kevin Gersh announced Thursday night that he is closing the camp  because of low enrollment

Founded in 1954, the Huntington camp has been a mainstay of summer camps on Long Island for years.

Gersh announced the closing on Facebook, writing that the site would continue to provide services for youngsters on the autism spectrum, and said he hoped to someday reopen  a camp on the same groups that  would “offer both typical learners and those with neurobiological differences the kind of summer experience they deserve, and we can all be proud of.”

“In 2014, when my father passed away, I continued to do all I could to provide the best camp experience for our children,” Gersh wrote. “Sadly, the world of day camps has changed quite significantly over the last decade as parents are making different choices for their children. As a result, summer day camp enrollment has been on the decline, and West Hills Day Camp is, unfortunately, no exception.”

He said any deposits or payments for this summer would be fully refunded immediately.

We are so very grateful to the many families and dedicated staff members who have made our camp a special place over many years.
