West Nile-Infected Mosquitos Found in Greenlawn, Northport

Sixteen mosquitos infected with West Nille virus were found in Suffolk County last week, the county health department said Friday.

One was found in Northport and another in Greenlawn. The rest were found in Bay Shore, Farmingville, West Islip, Brentwood,, North Babylon, and Lindenhurst, Copiague, Great River, Setauket, Holtsville, North Patchogue and East Hampton .

So far this season,  Suffolk County has reported 76 mosquito samples that have tested positive for West Nile virus.

West Nile virus, first detected in birds and mosquito samples in Suffolk County in 1999 and again each year thereafter, is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito.
