Whitman Graduate to Run LIRR

Catherine Rinaldi, a Walt Whitman graduate, will be running the Long Island Rail Road for at least the rest of the year, after LIRR president Phillip Eng announced his resignation last week.

Rinaldi, who graduated from Whitman in 1981, is president of Metro-North, which she will also continue to run.  She will assume her LIRR  duties on Feb. 26.

She has served as MTA deputy executive director and general counsel, and chief of staff and counsel at MTA headquarters.

As interim president of the Long Island Rail Road,  she will oversee the expansion of  the commuter line service, including the opening of LIRR service to Grand Central Terminal later this year.

She previously served as vice president and general counsel at the Long Island Rail Road from 2008 to 2011. Rinaldi was named the 2018 Woman of the Year by the Greater New York Chapter of the Women’s Transportation Seminar. She is a summa cum laude graduate of Yale and received her law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
