Whitman High School to Reopen After Covid-19 Diagnosis

Walt Whitman High School will reopen Tuesday for classes after a one-day shutdown caused by a student Covid-19 diagnosis.

Dr. David Bennardo, the South Huntington school district superintendent, said in a call to the school community Tuesday afternoon that a student received the diagnosis Sunday evening. The school was closed to allow for contact tracing and other safety measures, and Bennardo said about aa half-dozen Whitman students and staff who will be quarantining.

The Whitman diagnosis was one of three in the district. A student at Birchwood Intermediate School tested positive but was not in school, and a staff member in the district office also tested positive. Several people will be quarantined from both buildings, Bennardo said.
