Whitman Shops Closed Until March 29

Simon Property Group has closed all of its malls, including Walt Whitman Shops until March 29.

The decision comes after Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered facilities with indoor portions such as retail shopping malls, amusement parks and bowling alleys to close by Thursday at 8 p.m.

The company said the decision came after “extensive discussions with federal, state and local officials and in recognition of the need to address the spread of COVID-19.”

Two anchor stores, Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s, had already announced they were closing.

“The health and safety of our shoppers, retailers and employees is of paramount importance, and we are taking this step to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our communities,” president and CEO David Simon said in the release.
