Whole Foods Opens in Commack to Jazz and Applause

Whole Foods Market opened Wednesday morning in Commack as hundreds of customers who had waited outside walked through the doors to applause from employees.

Many customers returned the applause on their way to the well-stocked shelves.

Sabrina Orellana of Brentwood was the store’s first customer, lining up at 7 a.m. and waiting two hours.  She said she usually shops at the company’s Lake Grove store but wanted to check out the new site. “They have good, organic stuff for our family,” she said.

Commack High School’s Jazz Band entertained the crowds as customers waited outside and then entered the store.

The new store, in the former King Kullen store at at 120 Veterans Memorial Highway, includes a fast-casual eatery, which will offer menu items featuring local ingredients, and will serve a variety of wines and locally brewed beer on tap.  Other features include a large cheese station, an area to create individual trailmix-style foods,  and create salad dressings.
