Worker Rescued After Falling Into Mud Hole

A worker digging  alongside the foundation of a  house in Dix Hills was trapped when he fell into the mud hole, Suffolk County police said Friday.

Trevor Borders, 22, of Bay Shore was rescued after two hours from the hole on Woodfern Court. Suffolk police and rescuers from the Dix Hills, Huntington Manor and East Farmingdale Fire Departments succeeded in freeing him.

Borders tried to free himself  after he fell in about 10:10 a.m.  but was trapped in the hole eight feet into the ground.

The contractor, who was conscious and alert throughout, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, officials said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified, police said.
