Wrestlers Turn Out for Vin Altebrando Outdoor Festival

Dozens of wrestlers came out Saturday for the fifth annual Vin Altebrando outdoor wrestling festival to honor the late coach who first dreamed of the tournament.

The festival was held at Whitman High School where Altebrand, 51, was varsity wrestling coah until his death in 2018.

Competitors waited under sunny skies for their turn to line up on mats spread side by side and across the grounds of the football field to participate in the festival. The event raised money every year for different charitable causes. This year, the beneficiary is Jason Monshine,  a 1999 Whitman graduate and wrestling program alumnus, who was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer.
