Young Residents Eligible for Fishing Trip Lottery

Huntington residents ages 9-13 are eligible for a free fishing trip on July 30, the Town of Huntington said.

To be eligible, residents must enter a lottery drawing online (one entry per child) by Monday, July 8: http://huntingtonny.gov/fishing-trip

The lottery drawing can be viewed live on Tuesday, July 9 at 2 pm on Optimum 18, FIOS 38 or online at http://huntingtonny.gov/featured-programs .  Lottery winners will be notified the week of the lottery drawing, including further instructions for the day of the trip. Once winners are selected, a limited number of additional attendees may be added on first-come, first-served basis, as space is limited: $30/additional child (age 12 & under), $45/additional person (age 13 & up), payable on board to “The James Joseph II.”

Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci and the Suffolk County Senior Citizens Fishing Club, the Imperial Sportsmen’s Club of Long Island, and Captain James Schneider of the James Joseph II teamed up to offer the trip. Four James Joseph II ship mates will provide all equipment and instruction; four fishing club members will provide individual assistance and tips on fishing and conservation.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for kids who would otherwise never step foot on a fishing boat to learn about fishing as a recreation or as a possible future career,” Lupinacci said. “We are grateful to the Suffolk County Senior Citizens Fishing Club, the Imperial Sportsmen’s Club of Long Island and Captain James Schneider of the James Joseph II for offering to dedicate your time, expertise and resources to give back to thirty children across the Huntington community.”
