Zeldin Picks NYPD Officer as Running Mate

Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin chose a New York Police Department deputy inspector Wednesday as his running mate.

Alison A. Esposito who commands the 70th Precinct in Brooklyn, will join the congressman from the East End of Long Island on the June 28 primary ballot.

Zeldin, Democratic US Rep.Tom Suozzi, and Gov. Kathy Hochul have all chosen New York City figures as running mates.

The general election is Nov.8.

“I will fight for the future of our state, the future of my niece and nephews and the future of all New York’s children,” Spectrum Local News quoted her as saying Wednesday.

A prime topic of the campaign is expected to be public safety, with bail reform and rising crime rates major points of debate.

Zeldin made the announcement at  One Police Plaza in Manhattan.
