Zen Den Takes Mindfulness, Health Lessons Online

HuntingtonNow.com talked with Zen Den owners Michelle Anglisano and Kristen McDermott about mindfulness and health as we all experience the stress of the Covid-19 epidemic.

How is your business operating right now–all online?

–The Zen Den is slowly building again, but as of now we are scheduled for only virtual meditations.

You previously had in-person classes?

The Zen Den was purely in-person, but we were not opposed to virtual; it was just never requested. Our meditation workshops usually ran 2 hours in person.

Are you seeing an increased need for your services since the epidemic?

We have been getting requests for our virtual meditations pertaining to integrating mindful moments throughout the day, as well as positivity and understanding how to ground the body during stressful situations.

What’s your best advice to those stressing out over Covid and other things happening this year?

The Zen Den fully believes in allowing oneself to engage in morning meditations, before even getting out of bed.  Even if it is 5min.  This gives a person a few minutes of recognizing their breathing pattern, aligning the body with the mind and possibly setting an intention for their day.

How is your business doing?

The Zen Den is only a year and half old, so we were just at the beginning when the pandemic hit.  We were starting to become busy with wonderful meditations scheduled with the South Huntington Library, The Nesting Place for new moms, as well as other libraries where we were scheduled to teach a meditation workshop on handling grief.

Are you busier or less so since the epidemic began?

We are not as busy as we were because certain companies are not open yet for even small groups to gather, but we are advertising on our Facebook and Instagram pages.  We are also reaching out to our previously scheduled companies and sending emails out to new companies.

Anything else you’d like to say?

The Zen Den’s mission is to help as many people as we can with learning how to incorporate meditation into their lives.  We pride ourselves on not selling anything, such as oils or products representing meditation.  Our goal is purely to share our love of how meditation brings a new mindset into one’s life. Being Holistic Meditation Coaches is one of the most rewarding aspects of our lives.  We can’t wait to see how our loving-kindness spreads through what we do.

Huntington Now is catching up with businesses to see how they’re doing during the pandemic. If you’d like us to report on your business, email Sapphire Delzio at [email protected].
