5 Escape House Fire in Dix Hills

Five people escaped a fire Saturday afternoon that destroyed a house in Dix Hills.

The owner of the house at 101 Long Drive Ct., said the fire broke out about 1:15 p.m.

Dr. Faiz Khan, a physician at CityMD, said he and his family were able to get out uninjured.

Multiple fire departments and first-aid squads led by the Dix Hills Fire Department, responded to put out the blaze. Two hours later, they were still pouring water onto the house.

The heat and humidity, pollution from Canadian wildfires and smoke from the house fire combined to create a grayish-white haze around the area. Smoke could be seen from the LIE and the Half Hollow Hills East High School football field, and smoke wafted across the property of the school district’s administrative building on Half Hollow Hills Road.

The cause of the fire was unknown, though Dr. Khan said he suspected an HVAC/electrical problem.

The neighborhood is filled with luxury homes built on what was formerly a golf course.
