Bontempi Re-Elected to Legislature; Sanin Defeats Esteban

Suffolk County Legislator Stephanie Bontempi defeated Democratic challenger Dr. Eve Meltzer Krief Tuesday in a hotly contested vote in the 18th District.

Democrat Rebecca Sanin ousted first-term legislator Manuel Esteban in the 16th, while legislative incumbents Tom Donnelly (D-17th), Rob Trotta (R-13th), who ran unopposed, and Jason Richberg (D15th) were easily re-elected.

Bontempi, a teacher, is completing her first term.

Krief is a pediatrician who has been active in numerous causes, from childhood vaccination to immigration issues. She is also a member of the Harborfields Board of Education.

With redistricting taking effect in January, some legislators are relatively unknown to their constituents.
