3,094 Cast Early Ballots at Dix Hills Fire Department

The Suffolk Board of Education said Monday that 3,094 people took advantage of early voting at the Dix Hills Fire Department.

New York State adopted early voting for the first time this year, allowing people to vote before Election Day Tuesday.

Around the state, more than 256,000 people voted early for the first time in the off-year election, according to the state Board of Elections.  

The website said that turnout for the nine days of early voting was was 1.9 percent of the electorate for a year of nearly all local elections, according to the Board of Elections.

Election Day voting gets underway at 6 a.m. Tuesday, wrapping up at 9 p.m.
