Carnival, Parade and Football at Whitman Homecoming

Walt Whitman High School is pulling out all the stops for its homecoming celebration this weekend, with a carnival, parade, bonfire, all leading up to the football game Saturday against Commack.

The South Huntington public is invited to attend.

Things get underway Friday at 3:15 p.m. with the carnival in the parking lot at the high school. The carnival will include inflatable rides, games, music petting zoo, food trucks and Zabo’s Circus, which entranced hundreds of youngsters last year.

The traditional bonfire will be lit at 6:15 p.m. in the parking lot outside the North Gym.

The Powder Puff football game is set for 7pm on Friday night.

On Saturday, four inductees into the South Huntington Hall of Fame will be honored: Eliot Lonardo, Class of 1996; Dara Reid Croft, Class of 1997; Ed Wu, Class of 2006; Brittany Schiavone, Class of 2007.  That happens at 11 a.m., and includes a breakfast.

Honorees will join the homecoming parade from Whitman at 1 p.m. onto Jericho Turnpike and back into the South Huntington community and the high school. The parade will include bands from Whitman and Stimson Middle School, cheerleaders, athletes, class floats, clubs, and Scouts.

The game against Commack is at 3 p.m.
