Church Raising Funds for Food Program

The Congregational Church of Huntington is raising funds on GoFundMe for its Peace and Plenty Food Outreach program.
The program, begun in 2006, prepares and delivers fresh bread, baked goods, sandwiches and fruit each week. Food is prepared at Temple Beth El’s kitchen and delivered to Paumanok Village in Greenlawn and the Tri-Community and Youth Agency of Huntington Station.
More than 100,000 meals have been distributed since the founding of the program, the church said.
“The sandwiches are essential. The youth who visit our center every day after school are very hungry. For some, that is their dinner. Many ask to take extra sandwiches home and we are grateful that we can do this. The food also helps many people living without a kitchen get proper nutrition. We are very grateful for Peace & Plenty’s weekly delivery. “said Debbie Rimler, executive director of Tri CYA.
Fresh bread and baked goods are  donated each week by Copenhagen Bakery in Northport. Overall, supplies cost $5,000 a year, which provides 5,000 meals. All the money collected in this fund goes directly to buying food for this program.
