Cold Spring Harbor District Calls Meeting on Sex Abuse Settlement

The Cold Spring Harbor  Board of Education has scheduled a meeting Sept. 18 to discuss its recent $14 million settlement of two claims of sex abuse.

The board and superintendent Jill Gierasch will outline the next financial steps involved in the settlement of two claims of sex abuse dating back 40 years.

All community residents are invited to attend the meeting, which will be held at 7 p.m. at Cold Spring Harbor High School.

The district said it agreed to pay one former student $8 million and the other $6 million for claims of abuse brought under the Child Victims Act against two former teachers, both of whom are dead.

In announcing the settlement earlier this month, Gierasch said, “We sympathize with these former students and acknowledge the gravity of the allegations.”
