An East Northport man was charged Saturday night with driving while intoxicated after an accident in East Northport.
Suffolk County police said that Matthew Gibney was driving a 2021 Hyundai when it struck the rear of a 2020 Mazda at the intersection of Elwood and Pulaski Road in East Northport. His 11-month-old daughter was in his car, police said.
The Northport Fire Department took the child to Huntington Hospital for evaluation.
Gibney and the driver of the Mazda, Hillary Dorrejo, 22, of Yonkers were not injured, police said.
Gibney, 33, was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He was to be held overnight at the Second Precinct and scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
The Hyundai was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the
crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
