The Suffolk County Legislature has approved a bill establishing Oct. 18 as Hindu American Appreciation Day.
The bill was sponsored by Legislator Manuel Esteban, R-Dix Hills.
“Our Indian community is one of the pillars of Suffolk County and I am proud to recognize them through this legislation,” Esteban said. “From this October and into the future, they will have a special day that honors their culture and importance in our community.”
The legislation was approved by the members of the legislature. More than two dozen members of the Southeast Asian Community were present for the vote, with many voicing their appreciation of Esteban’s bill.
