Greenlawn Fire Department Kicks Off Four-Day Fair

The Greenlawn Fire Department kicked off its four-day fair Thursday night with a parade along Broadway-Greenlawn before turning into Boulevard Avenue and the packed fair at fire headquarters.

Serving as grand marshal was George Kouroutis, who marched the parade along with his family.  Kouroutis used an Automatic External Defibrillator to save the life of a young soccer player who collapsed Aug. 1 at a practice.

Several other fire departments and first responders, bands and motorcyclists joined the parade.

Several groups of teens on skateboards and bicycles sped alongside the parade at different points, while some raced into the middle of the parade itself as gaps developed, heading toward marching units before turning off.

The fair will continue through Sunday night, with Monday designated as a rain date if needed.

State Assemblymen Steve Stern and Keith Brown, along with County Legislator Stephanie Bontempi, joined the festivities.
